The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 and 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E are both built on dedicated EV platforms and are around the same size, but what about price? The 2025 Mach-E is certainly the value leader of the two with a significantly lower starting price. As you continue to read, you'll see why not only is the IONIQ 5 worth the added cost, but is also a superior value.

Performance

Hyundai introduced its "N" subbrand almost a decade ago, promising to deliver bona fide performance vehicles to rival competitors. In its top performance trim, the IONIQ N delivers on that promise, giving drivers the emission-free benefits of an EV while still providing the sensation and feel of an internal combustion-engined sports car. Dual electric motors produce an eye-watering 601 combined horsepower while Hyundai's "N grin" button on the steering wheel allows drivers to temporarily access an extra 40 horsepower on demand. What's more, unlike in other EVs, the paddle shifters on the steering wheel aren't just for show as Hyundai designed a system that allows drivers to feel the sensation of traditional gear shifts while pumping engine noise through the speakers. For more traditional EV buyers who don't care about power and want range, the IONIQ 5 has you covered with single or dual-motor setups that are capable of up to an impressive 318 miles of range. Best of all, the Hyundai helps you cover more ground and get back on the road quicker after recharging by being the first model with a NACS port that enables it to charge up at any of the over 17,000 points in Tesla's supercharger network.

While the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E bears the name of a performance car, it misses the mark on hard numbers compared to the IONIQ 5. The top-spec performance-oriented GT model has a dual motor setup similar to the IONIQ's; however, it's only good for 480 horsepower, a major deficit when compared to the IONIQ 5 N's 601 horsepower. In fairness, Ford does offer the Mach-E with lesser single and dual motor setups capable of up to a competitive 320 miles of range to please range-conscious drivers.

Safety Features

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 and 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E both earned a stellar "Top Safety Pick +" designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). When it comes to standard proactive safety tech however there is a clear winner: the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 which can be equipped with Hyundai's class-exclusive Remote Smart Parking Assist feature that can move it in and out of a tight parking space remotely so the driver can enter/exit.

Interior

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 has a thoughtfully laid-out and thoroughly modern interior. Environmentally conscious buyers will be pleased to find out that a lot of recycled materials are used to make it. Hyundai created a brand new platform for the IONIQ 5, which means it has a completely flat floor, making the cabin remarkably spacious. Two 12-inch screens stretch from the driver's door over to the start of the passenger seat. The My Hyundai app allows you to pre-condition the cabin to battle those frigid Bedford winters.

The cabin of the 2025 Mustang Mach-E is also fairly modern, however, it's not as fluid. A tiny instrument panel sits on top of the dash and looks strange next to the gargantuan 15.5-inch touchscreen that drivers must use to control the vast majority of functions. This means scrolling through multiple menus and settings, which is difficult while trying to drive. The IONIQ 5 is a triumph of form and function, whereas the Ford has the function but falls short on form.

Bottom Line

Ford will give you the run-around with the Mach-E, framing it up to be the fanciest EV you've ever seen while hiding some of its faults. Hyundai stays true to its strengths and creates incredible cars like the new 2025 IONIQ 5, which is a real embodiment of everything we love about the Hyundai brand on a reliable and stylish all-electric platform.
